Upcoming Netflix Original D.P. has released promos featuring the main cast in new posters and a video teaser.
The series stars Jung Hae-in (A Piece of Your Mind) and Gu Kyo-hwan (Kingdom: Ashin of the North) in what seems to be the army version of a buddy cop story. Jung is the somewhat naïve, newly enlisted private, and the bumbling but senior ranking Gu takes him under his wing. The two are both assigned to become D.P.s and together, they take on the challenging task of hunting down army deserters and bringing them back safely.
The posters give off a serious vibe and the tagline on all three reads the same: “I am a soldier who captures soldiers.”
In contrast, the teaser suggests a more comical action story and starts with Gu Kyo-hwan saving Jung Hae-in from bullying. Pretending to punish Jung himself, Gu takes him aside and jumps around shouting and slapping his own hands together as a scared Jung stands stiffly behind him. The teaser then cuts to Kim Sung-kyun (The Fiery Priest) asking Jung Hae-in to join the D.P. unit. When Jung agrees, Kim brings both Jung Hae-in and Gu Kyo-hwan to meet with Sohn Seok-gu (Be Melodramatic), and Sohn orders the team to bring back ten deserters.
The second half of the teaser focuses on Jung Hae-in and Gu Kyo-hwan’s developing bromance as they follow clues and chase down the runaway soldiers. In a sequence of shots, we see them wearing their “cool” clothes, traveling through different neighborhoods, eating on the go, encountering all sorts of people, and getting into skirmishes. In the final scene, the two finally capture one deserter. But when questioned why Jung and Gu are so committed to their mission, Jung Hae-in looks conflicted and the teaser comes to an end.
Production for the drama is being handled collaboratively, with film director Han Joon-hee (Hit and Run Squad, Coin Locker Girl) taking the director’s chair. Han also has a hand in the scripts and is working together with the original webtoon creator Kim Bo-tong to write the episodes. The story is said to be taken from Kim’s own army experiences when he worked as a D.P.
Netflix drama D.P. releases next month on August 27.
