Namgoong Min Seeks Revenge in Blockbuster Drama The Veil

A trailer for The Veil (formerly known as Black Sun) has been unveiled (heh). Namgoong Min (Awaken) stars in this upcoming MBC spy-action drama as the best Korean NIS field agent who went missing a year ago. When he returns, he seeks revenge against the traitorous insiders who caused his downfall.

Park Ha-sun (Birthcare Center) plays the very capable team leader of the Criminal Information Center. While she normally displays a cold rationality at work, she also has a warm human side. Other supporting actors include: Kim Ji-eun (Hell is Other People), Kim Byung-gi (Dark Hole), Lee Kyung-young (Vincenzo), and Jang Young-nam (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay).

The trailer begins with a man falling into water. In a voiceover, someone laughs at Namgoong Min: “You’re not even a worthy opponent for us.” Namgoong Min stares back unfazed.

A military operation surrounds a grimy ship. The face mocking Namgoong Min is shown to be a half-naked man covered in tattoos and bruises. He laughs and tells Namgoong Min: “You’re a dead man now.”

Black SUVs overtake a police escort containing a ragged and bearded Namgoong Min. Flashes show a 24k gold watch-clad wrist with an accompanying mafia-style ring. A German shepherd barks menacingly. A new slurred voice says: “Listen carefully. There will be someone who will volunteer first to mediate. Be careful of that person.”

We see a scarred Namgoong Min, Jang Young-nam, and Lee Kyoung-young in quick succession. The speaker is shown to be Kim Yong-tae, playing a fellow NIS agent advising Namgoong Min. At the gun range, Namgoong Min’s eyes are blazing as he shoots his target. He meets Park Ha-sun, who also tells him: “Your memories are not just your own.”

Someone from the outside tells Namgoong Min, sporting a different haircut with no scar (possibly indicating that this is pre-disappearance), that he can’t trust anyone. Kim Ji-eun asks to join the plan. In true blockbuster fashion, the trailer goes on to show car chase scenes, street knife fights, police station drama, tight fistfight shots, point blank gun-downs, truck flips and more. Dramatic tension builds as the music crescendoes.

Yoo Oh-sung tightens his burn-scarred fist as he surveys something before him. Namgoong Min leaves a building ablaze as his lackeys light fire to the stacks of material around them. The last shot shows a bloodied, hairy Namgoong Min tied up somewhere with his eyes fiery with a determination for revenge.

Written by Park Seok-ho and directed by Kim Sung-yong, The Veil will begin airing in the latter half of this year on MBC.
