Jang Ki-yong and Hyeri Clash as Roommates in My Roommate Is a Gumiho Teasers

New character teasers have been released for tvN’s upcoming fantasy rom-com My Roommate Is a Gumiho, starring Jang Ki-yong (Born Again) and Hyeri (Miss Lee).

The drama has Jang playing a gumiho who is almost a 1000 years old. Although he has been living discreetly among humans for as long as he can remember, he somehow gets involved with college student Hyeri after a potentially life-altering blunder. This results in unexpected circumstances surrounding his soul crystal (something that’s been in his care for centuries) and the two are forced to become roommates.

The first teaser focuses on Hyeri’s character, Lee Dam. As she sits at her desk looking contemplative, delicate music plays in the background and Jang Ki-yong describes her in voiceover: “I can tell what kind of person she is. She has a fair and pure heart.” Cut to a close-up of Hyeri’s notebook as the music switches to a comical tune. On the blank page, she writes: “Gumiho? Maybe a con artist?!” And the captions on the left highlight 3 points: “Cohabitation / Contract / Con Artist?” Researching a law book, Hyeri types up a contract proposal and surprises Jang Ki-yong by slamming it onto his desk. She declares, “Whether you’re a gumiho or not, I’m not going to get scammed by you. Sign the contract.” Text appears on the screen describing who she really is: “A present day human born in 1999 who gives off icy vibes.” The video comes to a close with Hyeri’s narration, “tvN’s My Roommate Is a Gumiho premieres May.”

The second teaser is focused on Jang Ki-yong in the role of a gumiho named Shin Woo-yeo. It starts with Jang sitting in a darkened blue room as lightning flashes and ominous music plays in the background. Hyeri describes that, “He has perfect looks. But the blood… blood!” And as dark blood drips onto a white floor, she screams. Cut to Jang Ki-yong following Hyeri around the room and nagging at her, “I’m pretty sure I told you that curfew is 10pm.” The music takes on a lighter tone and the captions explain that: “He is strict / He is solemn / He is serious.” Holding a cup of latte, he begins to exposit, “In my day…” while Hyeri yawns and expresses her tiredness. As the teaser closes, the final captions explain that Jang is a “999 year-old gumiho who is strict, solemn, and serious.” Jang Ki-yong explains in voiceover, “tvN’s My Roommate Is a Gumiho premieres May.”

Directed by PD Nam Sung-woo (Old School Intern) and written collaboratively by Baek Sun-woo (What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim) and Choi Bo-rim (What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim), tvN’s next Wednesday-Thursday drama My Roommate Is a Gumiho premieres next month on May 26.
