Upcoming MBC drama Kairos has dropped some fresh promo that delves a little more into the story. Shin Sung-rok (Vagabond) is featured prominently as the desperate dad who’ll do anything for the return of his daughter, and Lee Se-young (Memorist) is shown as a young woman whose mother is also in trouble.
The twist comes in with their timelines: Shin Sung-rok lives one month ahead of Lee Se-young, but somehow they’re able to communicate and help each other find their respective loved ones. The teaser begins with the kidnapper calling Shin Sung-rok, asking him whether he wants to see his daughter again. Shin Sung-rok’s desperation is palpable when he lunges at a potential suspect in the interrogation room. Missing signs show that his daughter, played by Shim Hye-yeon (Graceful Friends), disappeared on August 6.
His wife, played by Nam Gyuri (Different Dreams), collapses in disbelief and grief. Her character is a violinist who came from a well-to-do family. When her father’s business went bankrupt, she began working part-time performance gigs, and at one reception job, she met Shin Sung-rok and fell in love. When her daughter disappears, her entire world begins to crumble again.
Lee Se-young narrates that she saw Shin Sung-rok’s daughter, and their encounter in a convenience store is shown. Over the phone, Shin Sung-rok asks whether Lee Se-young is currently living in August, as a search party combs through the forest looking for his daughter. He tells her that he’s currently living one month ahead of her, while interspersed shots show her telling someone that her connection to the future is why she knows some unexplained evidence.
Copy reads, “Two timelines… two cases… that are connected,” while scenes of chase and pursuit are shown. Lee Se-young asks Shin Sung-rok what she can do to help. He’s eventually arrested by the police, on grounds of suspicion for his own daughter’s kidnapping. He shouts that he didn’t kill her.
At the hospital, Lee Se-young tearfully asks whether the unconscious woman receiving emergent care for cardiac arrest is her mother. More copy flashes onscreen saying: “The one minute… that could change everything.” Lee Se-young asks through the phone whether the person is from the future and asks that he save her mother. Lee Se-young’s mother faints as she comes out of a phone booth. Shin Sung-rok’s voiceover says that he won’t accept his fate, and the last scene shows how changing the timeline has mysteriously erased the scratches on his face.
MBC Monday-Tuesday drama Kairos, directed by Park Seung-woo and written by Lee Soo-hyun, will begin airing on October 26.
