From Fandom to Romance: Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam’s Chemistry in Record of Youth

In the next batch of promos for tvN’s upcoming Record of Youth, a new poster and video teaser has been released.

The poster features the main trio of the drama, played by Park Bo-gum (Boyfriend), Park So-dam (Parasite), and Byun Woo-seok (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency). Their characters represent the youth of this generation who are working tirelessly to pursue their dreams and passions, even when facing against the harsh realities around them. The drama will follow their growth and maturity as they deal with different challenges and learn to make a path for themselves while living in this world.

In this story Park Bo-gum plays an aspiring actor named Sa Hye-joon, who resiliently strives forward in order to achieve his dream. Park So-dam takes on the role of Ahn Jung-ha, a sensible and hard-working make-up artist, who is a fan of Park Bo-gum’s character.

Much like Park Bo-gum, Byun Woo-seok’s Won Hae-hyo also dreams of acting. He works hard to be recognized for his own efforts and talent, rather than his family background.

The newly released teaser is a preview of Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam’s developing relationship and it starts with a quick cut of him taking her hand. We see him taking notice of her and he says, “I wanted to tell you this.” In a sequence of shots, Park So-dam is shown in fan mode: looking up photos of Park Bo-gum, browsing his Instagram, taking videos of him at a fashion show, and preparing a gift. But then it cuts to a drunk Park So-dam who slurs, “I’ve decided to quit being your fan.”

In the next sequence, we see Park So-dam in her job. She looks in awe at her surroundings and we see rows of cosmetics as well as her own brush collection featured on her Instagram. Park Bo-gum watches as she applies make-up on his face and it cuts to the two having coffee together. As they laugh over their mutual foam mustaches, we hear him confess, “I feel at ease when I’m with you. I feel safe and comfortable.” Park So-dam responds, “It feels like I’m alone in the world,” and we see her sitting by herself on the bus while it rains outside. We cut back to Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam together, walking under an umbrella in the rain. He assures her, “Oppa will call you when it rains. You’re not alone.” And the teaser comes to a close as the two share a charged moment. They look at each other as Park Bo-gum ties a scarf around Park So-dam’s neck and she asks hesitantly, “Isn’t this abrupt?”

I’m excited to see this, being a fan of both Park So-dam and Park Bo-gum. And I’m definitely in the mood for a sweet and somewhat fluffy romance. Sadly, Park Bo-gum is starting army duty next month on August 31, so it’ll be a while before he returns to our screens. All fingers and toes crossed hoping this will be good!
