Production for KBS’s upcoming comedy Zombie Detective (working title) is well underway, and the first stills have been released, along with some additional casting news.
Choi Jin-hyuk (Rugal) stars in the drama as Kim Moo-young, who’s been a zombie for 2 years and counting. Although he has some wild characteristics, he’s unlike the zombies we see in most horror films and retains a more human appearance thanks to disciplined practice and effort on his part. As such, he can still blend in among human society and sets out to become a private detective in order to recover all the memories he lost of his former human life.
Joining him in the drama is Tae Hang-ho (Voice 3), who plays Lee Sung-rok. As an established private-eye who runs his own agency, he is committed to delivering customer satisfaction and is willing to use any means in order to get the job done. When Choi Jin-hyuk arrives in the neighborhood and sets up an office across the street from Tae Hang-ho’s detective agency, the two become rivals.
Other cast members confirmed for the drama include Park Joo-hyun (Extracurricular), Hwang Bora (Hyena), and Ahn Se-ha (Queen: Love and War, Abyss) among others.
The drama is a horror-comedy, and knowing that, my interest level has gone up. One of my favorite story plots is when rivalry turns into reluctant friendship, so hopefully the drama allows for some bromance between the two.
It’ll be fun to see Tae Hang-ho play opposite against Choi Jin-hyuk as well since the two actors memorably played the same character An Empress’s Dignity. To refresh your memories, the two shared the role of Na Wang-shik, a man who survives a terrible murder attempt. After his brush with death, Tae’s Wang-shik and transformed into Choi’s Wang-shik and embarked on an epic quest for revenge.
KBS drama Zombie Detective is currently being planned to premiere later this year, following Men Are Men.
