A new supernatural horror drama called The Cursed is on the horizon, written by Train to Busan’s director Yeon Sang-ho. Recently, a new teaser and promo poster has been released to gear up for the premiere. In the poster above, a hooded figure is on fire amidst a pitch dark background, with chilling copy that reads: “Curses begin from people’s hearts.”
In the drama, a teenager, played by Jung Ji-so (W—Two Worlds, Parasite), has the ability to call forth death using people’s hanja names, their photos, or their possessions. She’s joined by a righteous reporter, played by Eom Ji-won (Spring Must Be Coming), to fight against a shadowy power coming from a giant IT corporation, headed by Sung Dong-il’s (Trap) character.
In the teaser, it sounds like an exorcism is going on in the background as these words flash between scenes: “Supernatural,” “Crazy Energy,” and “Confrontation.” We see violent images of strangulations, arson, and bloody limbs with periodic interspersed clips of Sung Dong-il’s eerie gaze. The final few words say that there is “Only one method to fight against evil.”
Overall, I’m definitely getting The Guest vibes from the teaser and poster. I was a huge fan of that show, and Train to Busan was great too, so my expectations for The Cursed have definitely been hyped by the promo.
Monday-Tuesday tvN drama The Cursed, directed by Kim Yong-wan (Champion), will begin airing on February 10.
