Premiere Watch: Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2, The Crowned Clown, What’s Wrong Mr. Poong-sang

2019 is off to a strong start with a new crop of dramas for your viewing pleasure!

Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Legal comedy
Episode count: 32 episodes

Reasons to watch: Our favorite underdog lawyer is back! Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho‘s first season aired in 2016 and fans have been eagerly waiting for season 2 to come together. Park Shin-yang will be reprising his role as the titular Jo Deul-ho, with Go Hyun-jung joining the cast as his new foil. Poor Jo Deul-ho always stood tall against injustice, but he’s fallen on hard times when season 2 starts. After having his law license revoked, Jo Deul-ho attempts to deal with the aftermath of having lost his livelihood. Try as he might, he can’t seem to catch a break. We’ll have to tune in to see if Jo Deul-ho can turn things around for himself.

The Crowned Clown

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Sageuk
Episode count: 16 episodes

Reasons to watch: Yeo Jin-gu stars in this sageuk, The Crowned Clown (literal title, The Man Who Became King) and he’ll be playing the role of the king and his doppleganger clown. The drama is remake of the hit 2012 film, Masquerade. King Yi Heon faces numerous threats on his life, and growing ever more desperate and unstable, he decides to place an imposter on the throne while he devises a plan to save his life. The clown, Ha-sun, initially finds the crown a heavy burden to bear and fears being discovered as an imposter. However, he eventually grows more comfortable governing and finds himself falling in love with the queen (played by Lee Se-young). Will the king or the clown win the queen’s heart, and who will manage to hold onto the throne?

What’s Wrong Mr. Poong-sang

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Family, comedy
Episode count: 40 episodes

Reasons to watch: What does a brother have to do to get some love? The oldest of five, Lee Poong-sang (played by Yoo Joon-sang) has always cared and provided for his younger siblings, played by Oh Ji-ho, Jeon Hye-bin, Lee Shi-young, and Lee Chang-yeop. But his ne’er-do-well siblings have always taken Poong-sang for granted and caused him endless heartache. The drama will follow the Poong-sang and his family’s ups and downs. Maybe this dysfunctional family will learn to be a little more loving and considerate of each other. It’s unusual to see a primetime family drama and the cast is stellar so my interest is officially piqued.
