Reasons to watch: One moment can change a person’s entire life trajectory. Yoo Seung-ho’s character learns this firsthand in My Strange Hero (literal title: Revenge Returns). Every hero has an origin story, and our strange hero’s origin story dates back to his high school years. A happy-go-lucky Yoo Seung-ho has his life changed irrevocably after he’s framed for a serious assault at school. His young life in tatters, he vows to take revenge on the people who’ve wronged him — including his first love. In order to carry out his revenge plot, Yoo Seung-ho manages to finangle his way back to his school as an adult. Conveniently, his first love, Jo Boa, is now teaching there on a temporary contract and his rival is on the school board. Though he wants to get retribution, revenge may not quite turn out to what Yoo he expected it to be. Though this is all straightforward melo material, the official show description and teasers indicate lots of comedy and light rom-com plot points as well as some youthful angst. This is the first time Jo Boa and Yoo Seung-ho have worked together so I’m looking forward to watching their chemistry. It hasn’t been that long since Yoo Seung-ho’s last drama wrapped, but I’m excited to see him back on the screen so soon!
