Facing Demonic Forces: Faith and Science in OCN’s Priest

Facing Demonic Forces: Faith and Science in OCN’s Priest

Is exorcism the new serial killer in dramaland? Where OCN’s other exorcism drama The Guest teams up a priest with law enforcement, upcoming show Priest will take on a slightly different approach, with two priests, played by Yeon Woo-jin (Nothing to Lose) and Park Yong-woo (Life Tracker Lee Jae-goo), and a medical doctor, played by Jung Yumi (Investigation Couple). It’s an interesting mix of faith and science clashing in the face of paranormal happenings, so I’m eager to see how that conflict plays out on screen.

The posters that have been released by the show are appropriately moody and dark, with our team of priests and doctor worriedly standing over a hunched patient in one, and them all looking towards the same direction in the other. The caption on both posters say, “In the end, what should never have come has returned.”

Although they all have a common enemy, our three leads have wildly different beliefs and values. Yeon Woo-jin’s character, is an exorcist who puts faith above all else, while Jung Yumi’s doctor puts, appropriately, life above all else. Park Yong-woo is the most ambitious, or maybe the most naive, of the three, and tries to protect everything as they fight against the demonic.

Priest is one of OCN’s new project shows where they’re bringing together film and drama talent, and to that end, director Kim Jong-hyun, of Take Off 2 and Superstar Mr. Gam, will be at the helm, while rookie Moon Man-se will pen the script. Other Chungmuro behind-the-scenes talent, like music, camera, lighting, and art directors, will be involved in the OCN exorcism show, no doubt making it as creepy and disturbing as they can make it.

OCN’s Priest will follow currently airing Player, and take over the Saturday-Sunday slot starting November 24th.
