Ahn Hyo-seop to Romance Kim So-hyun in Love Alarm

Okay, this pairing is kittens-in-a-teacup-level cute. Rookie actor Ahn Hyo-seop (Thirty But Seventeen) has been offered his first leading role in the anticipated drama adaptation of the webtoon Love Alarm, opposite leading lady Kim So-hyun (Ruler–Master of the Mask). The casting hasn’t been confirmed so he’s only considering the offer for now, but he’d be crazy not to jump at the chance.

The youth drama is about a love triangle between a hardworking girl, a prickly boy, and his best friend who’s sweet and perfect (of course), complicated by the existence of a phone app that lets you know if someone in a ten-meter range has a crush on you. Um, it’s like Tinder for feelings?

Kim So-hyun is a no-brainer for the leading role, as the lovely everygirl who will have the affections of two boys. Ahn Hyo-seop is an up-and-coming actor who debuted in the awesome mini-drama Splish Splash Love, and went on to have supporting roles in One More Happy Ending, Entertainer, and Father Is Strange, among others.

But it’s his current role as the cute, dumb jock nephew in Thirty But Seventeen that’s getting a lot of attention, and for good reason—he’s getting all the cute moments of a budding first crush that we know will be doomed. It also doesn’t hurt that the main lead is very serious, while the nephew gets to be all sunshine and rainbows. There’s nothing like a good run as a second lead to get people rooting for you to graduate and get the girl in the next one!

Love Alarm will be directed by PD Lee Na-jung of the feel-good romantic comedy Fight My Way, and it’ll be broadcast simultaneously on Netflix and tvN later this year.
