I like the idea of these two young actors in drama together, and I think they have the chops to headline a historical rom-com. There’s a new mystery rom-com sageuk on the way called Hundred Day Husband, and offers are out to EXO’s D.O. (I Remember You) and Nam Ji-hyun (Suspicious Partner) to star. The series is touted as the “comedy sageuk Jason Bourne,” and it’s about the wacky adventures of a missing crown prince.
The drama is a mistaken-identity romp about a fictional Joseon crown prince who goes missing from the palace and the hundred days he spends living as a commoner. D.O. is up for the role of crown prince Lee Yul, a perfectionist who makes one fatal mistake and nearly dies in an attack by an assassin. He falls off a cliff and must get amnesia or something, because he somehow ends up as a useless youth. Let me guess—country girl Nam Ji-hyun takes him in, feeds him, clothes him, and cures him of his luxury shopping addiction? Wait, wrong drama.
It sure sounds like the Joseon-era Shopping King Louis though, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I guess Nam Ji-hyun just seems like the kind of girl who would bring stray puppies home, no matter the century. It’s a cute premise and I love historical comedies, so I hope they sign on.
The drama comes from writer Noh Ji-seol of She’s So Lovable, Scent of a Woman, and Dr. Champ. Hm, one of these is not like the others (pssst… she was in fact not so lovable), but hopefully that drama was a fluke. I mean, they’ve already got a leg up with this casting, right?
Hundred Day Husband is being considered for a broadcast later this year on tvN.
