A new teaser has been released for tvN’s upcoming drama special Big Data Romance featuring actors Jeon So-min (Top Star Yoo Baek) and Song Jae-rim (Let Me Hear Your Song).
The rom-com stars Song Jae-rim in the role of tech genius Kim Seo-joon, who is the developer of a dating app called Big Data. He is a strong advocate for his app’s method for matching potential partners and highly values compatibility in relationships. Of course, as this is a drama, he somehow gets paired with Jeon So-min’s character on his app, who doesn’t fit his expected version of a kindred spirit. She’s all brawn while he’s all brain. She’s a sentimentalist who loves things retro and analog, which clashes with his digital mindset. Yet, he can’t help but feel the corners of his mouth twitching upwards whenever she’s around and he finds himself falling in that thing called love.
For Jeon So-min’s character, named Ahn Bitna, the story starts with her feeling dejected and beingburned one too many times by her former boyfriend. Deciding that he had just been too different from her, she signs up with Big Data in hopes of finding someone more compatible. She resolves to no longer be fanciful about love and instead pragmatic for a change, so she starts to look for a romantic partner who shares similarities with her. However, after becoming connected with Song Jae-rim, she feels her heart start to race and she becomes conflicted as she finds herself drawn to him more and more.
In the newly released video teaser, we get a cute peek at the beginnings of Song Jae-rim and Jeon So-min’s relationship. They look at each sweetly, smiling and holding hands, and continue to enjoy each other’s company as they walk together through a field. Song asks, “What is most important to you when dating someone?” The teaser comes to a close with Jeon’s reply: “I think loving someone starts with feeling your heart flutter, don’t you think so?”
The script was penned by new writer Jung Hui-sun with Joo Sang-gyu taking the lead on directing, Big Data Romance is part of tvN’s ongoing Drama Stage series which features ten single-episode stories each season. Notably, the series was created as a venue for new and aspiring writers to showcase their works, and each vignette is created by different writers and directors.
Although it’s just one episode, I’m super excited to see Song Jae-rim in a lead role! OTP in a romantic comedy! It’s finally happening! There’s not much to go by in the teaser, but it looks cute so far and hopefully it’ll be a fun watch during the holidays.
tvN drama special Big Data Romance is currently set to air next week on December 25.
