Exploring Plane Crashes and Corruption in Spy-Action Drama Vagabond

Another action-packed teaser has been released for upcoming political spy-action melodrama Vagabond, starring Lee Seung-gi (Hwayugi) and Suzy (While You Were Sleeping). When a tragic plane crash occurs, a devastated young man, played by Lee Seung-gi, begins to search for the hidden truth, and finds an immense corruption at work. This drama depicts a harsh and risky journey for the “vagabonds” who have lost their families, their jobs, and even their names.

The teaser plays like a Hollywood action trailer with huge explosions, car chases, and hints of political mystery. With its big budget, the drama has been filming for almost a year already, including several times at overseas shoot locations like Morocco and Portugal. Suzy plays an NIS black ops agent, and Shin Sung-rok (The Last Empress) plays an NIS inspection team lead.

The president, played by Bae Yoon-shik (Cantabile Tomorrow), begins his press conference telling the media about “the most tragic news he’s heard throughout his presidency.” A CGI plane falls from the sky, and a crowd including Lee Seung-gi begins to violently protest against the president. Quick flashes of helicopter chases and police barricades are shown, and it looks like this tragedy has sparked action from many powerful stakeholders.

Lee Kyung-young (Haechi), who plays a weapons lobbyist, says in his voiceover, “This is not just about the FX business, it’s about the line between truth and deceit, and the fight between good and evil.”

A woman shouts into her phone to “Shoot him now!” and we can see the killing glint in Shin Sung-rok’s eyes as he raises his gun to Lee Seung-gi and Suzy who thought that they were walking toward safety. Their surprise is evident as a narrator says, “Listen carefully, this is your nation’s command.”

SBS Friday-Saturday drama Vagabond begins airing on September 20.
