When a cryogenics project goes wrong, the lives of two individuals go completely awry. Ji Chang-wook (Suspicious Partner) and Won Jin-ah (Life) play the two people who participate in a televised experiment that’s supposed to have last for 24 hours. Ji is a famous PD who’s known for his fun variety shows. The televised experiment was supposed to be his latest hit project.
Instead, when they wake up, they realize that 20 years have passed. The recently released poster shows the two characters staring at each other intensely while the copy reads: “33 degrees Celsius, the moment when we were the hottest.”
We also have two character teasers, one from Won Jin-ah’s perspective and the other from Ji Chang-wook’s view. The teasers both begin the same way, with the respective characters seen frozen and unconscious. Even the voiceover begins the same way: “Cryogenic human project. They promised to unfreeze us after 24 hours…but we awoke 20 years later.”
At the beginning of the teasers, the timer in the corner starts counting from 12 a.m. on September 28, 1999. It suddenly begins speeding up as each respective character awakens to present day, 12 a.m. on September 28, 2019.
Then we see both characters sitting alone in their respective rooms, staring outside. This is where the character teasers diverge. Won Jin-ah lets out a huge hopeless sigh as she stares off into the distance and asks herself, “What do I do now?”
Ji Chang-wook yells into his phone, “2019?” in an unhappy are-you-kidding-me tone. Then the phone slowly slides off his ear, and he also lets out a sigh as he thinks, “I’ve been asleep for 20 years.” He looks confounded as he sighs to himself, “Aish, 20 years.”
Saturday-Sunday sci-fi romance drama Melt Me will begin airing on September 28 on tvN.
