I love this fusion sageuk drama already. Recently, Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency has been doing more promo, gearing up for its September air date. Still cuts of the matchmaking trio, Kim Min-jae (Mr. Sunshine, The Great Seducer), Park Ji-hoon (formerly of Wanna One), and Byun Woo-seok (Search: WWW) have been released.
Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency’s plot centers around a man who became king overnight, but he still longs for his first love from the village. The king is being played by Seo Ji-hoon (Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter), and his romantic interest by Gong Seung-yeon (Are You Human Too). Because he’s the king and she has humble origins, their statuses are incompatible, making it impossible for them to marry. So he hires Kim Min-jae and his flower crew to do a My Fair Lady-esque transformation on Gong Seung-yeon.
According to his character description, Kim Min-jae plays the handsome leader and ace of the matchmaking agency, with a marriage-introduction success rate of 99%. Although he may look like a rich nobleman’s son on the outside, he’s more than his graceful looks. He knows how to deftly command language and sharply observe people and their habits. Park Ji-hoon plays the image-making consultant Young-soo, and Byun Woo-seok plays information expert Do-joon.
Although matchmaking agencies run by men are not the norm, Kim Min-jae and his crew are known to have the Midas touch when it comes to marriage so they’re sought out by men and women alike. The secret to this success is not trust, hope, or even love between his matches; it is objective compatibility. He looks at the partners’ mannerisms, personalities, financial assets, educational and family backgrounds before suggesting the matches.
On September 16, JTBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency, written by Kim Yi-rang and directed by Kim Ga-ram, will air its first episode.
