tvN’s upcoming fantasy rom-com Hotel del Luna has released a new teaser featuring lead actors IU (a.k.a Lee Ji-eun, My Ajusshi) and Yeo Jin-gu (My Absolute Boyfriend).
The drama is set in Hotel del Luna, a grand hotel which serves an exclusive clientele of spirits and ghosts. The owner however is an eccentric spirit named Jang Man-wol (played by IU). By a chance of fate, she meets Yeo Jin-gu’s character, Gu Chan-sung, whom she hires as hotel manager for the Hotel del Luna. But, despite his high qualifications, it’s an odd and challenging choice, what with him being human–and deathly afraid of ghosts.
The newly released teaser starts with an angled shot of IU standing in a hallway at the hotel and the caption in the background questions her relationship with Yeo Jin-gu: “Who is Chan-sung to Man-wol?” IU walks into a room with a rifle and she responds to the question in voice-over: “When we first met, he pretended not to notice me so I put a ghost on his tail.” Cut to a close-up of Yeo Jin-gu who stands very still and stares stoically at the camera as subways speed past him in the background. We briefly cut away to IU who aims the rifle and pulls the trigger, before returning to Yeo Jin-gu who comes face to face with the ghost tailing him. He screams in fear and yelps at the ghost to go away, before frantically attempting to flee.
The scene switches to a bemused IU who continues to speak in voice-over: “He looked cute, how scared he was, so I saved him. But just because he’s a little educated, he thinks he can nag at me all the time.” Cut to a sequence of shots showing a frustrated Yeo Jin-gu who repeatedly talks about his Harvard MBA credentials as he meets with IU at a restaurant and the two walk together in various places. The scene changes to Yeo Jin-gu yelling IU’s name as he runs toward her. He embraces her as he shields her from something or someone above, and he says: “I think about you a lot.” The teaser then ends with a close-up of IU as she concludes her response to the initial question. She gives a small smirk and declares, “And so, I really like him.”
Fantasy rom-com Hotel del Luna is the latest project from the writing duo the Hong Sisters and PD Oh Choong-hwan (While You Were Sleeping) has been tapped to direct. The drama is currently set to premiere on July 13, and will be airing Saturdays and Sundays on tvN.
