A new teaser has been released for tvN’s upcoming supernatural-fantasy romance Hotel del Luna featuring lead actors IU (My Ajusshi) and Yeo Jin-gu (My Absolute Boyfriend).
The story takes place at the mysterious and eerie Hotel del Luna whose true appearance cannot be seen by mortal humans. It is only their clientele of ghosts and spirits who can enjoy the hotel’s opulence and grandeur. Yet, by a strange chance of fate, a human by the name of Gu Chan-sung (played by Yeo Jin-gu) becomes the hotel manager and must now run the Hotel del Luna alongside the eccentric owner, Jang Man-wol (played by IU). However, working with Jang proves to be an added challenge as she’s fussy, eccentric, extravagant and greedy, quick-tempered, and suspicious by nature.
The teaser plays fairy tale-like music in the background as it starts with panoramic shots of Seoul against the night sky, with the moon looming large in the back. We get a view of the central tower where we see can see shadows of people enjoying themselves through the windows. The scene transitions to a nightscape of skyscrapers and traffic moving quickly over a river bridge as the otherworldly moon slowly rises higher in the sky. There’s a swift scene change to a besuited Yeo Jin-gu standing in the hotel hallway. The camera lingers on him as the lights flicker before the scene cuts to a close-up of IU as she stoically stares at the camera. The teaser ends with Yeo Jin-gu’s voice-over narration. “Hotel del Luna, grand opening in July.”
The drama will be written by the famed (perhaps infamous, depending on your tastes) Hong sisters duo, Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran (Hwayugi, Master’s Sun). Directing will be done by PD Oh Choong-hwan (Doctors, While You Were Sleeping).
I hope Yeo Jin-gu is finding some rest time between all his projects because this will his third(!) drama airing this year. There’s not much to go by in the teaser, but I’m still super excited because I have a huge soft spot for the Hong sisters and I really like both Yeo Jin-gu and IU. One more month to go!
tvN’s Hotel del Luna is currently set to premiere next month, in July 2019.
