We’ve got the second teaser for SBS’s upcoming legal thriller Falsify, as well as a slew of posters featuring each of our main players, as well as the cast together. It looks like there are a lot of clashing motivations among our lead characters and it’ll be interesting to see them either come together or end up on opposing sides of the fight for justice.
The teaser starts with Namgoong Min (Chief Kim) narrating: “There was a reporter that I liked a long time ago, and he said that to reporters, helping the weak isn’t justice, it’s common sense.” As he says this, we see his character in a dark room, as well as brief intercut scenes of someone entering a wake and a crowd of reporters clamoring for a shot in front of a police station. Jung Man-shik’s (Entertainer) detective character then threatens, “Let’s meet up just once before you die,” as he gets surrounded by reporters in front of his precinct.
Yoo Joon-sang (Pied Piper) slams Oh Jung-se (Missing 9), who must be putting in a cameo, into the wall in a stairwell, and we see Eom Ji-won’s (Master) prosecutor jump out of a police van at a crime scene. A voice says, “He doesn’t need to have committed a crime to get locked away.” Moon Sung-geun (The Tooth and the Nail) smiles to himself in an empty boardroom, which is followed by Oh Jung-se begging someone for one word of encouragement, to not give up. Aw, are you Namgoong Min’s brother, and the reporter he said he liked?
A chyron reads, “The truth does not remain in the dark.” Eom Ji-won scathingly remarks, “Don’t fool yourself. Manipulating emotions is not the job of a reporter.” A menacing voice says offscreen, “We’ll just cover this up with something bigger.” Says every corrupt person ever in a legal thriller. Moon Sung-geun’s character does look like he’s going about some shady business in the teaser, so it looks like he’ll be siding with the baddies, which isn’t good news for Yoo Joon-sang, who works for the newspaper owned by Moon. No wonder he’s so cautious. The teaser ends with Namgoong Min looking at the camera saying, “There’s just no hope for this bastard.”
The individual posters and the quotes that accompany each character pretty much reflect what we’ve seen in the teasers thus far, but I do like the picture within a picture feel they were going for. Namgoong Min’s poster reads, “The articles are being blocked, the law has broken down. The rules of the game no longer apply. So now, I’ll do things my way.” Moon Sung-geun, looking perturbed, goes, “If this is a war that was going to be waged anyway, it’s better that it takes place where we can see them conspiring.”
Eom Ji-won sounds like she’s raring for a fight: “In my eyes, you’re just a cheap sycophant who is trying to mess with my case.” She doesn’t mince words, does she? I’m quite interested to see more of Yoo Joon-sang’s character, since he’s supposed to be this star investigative reporter, but he sounds the most gun-shy of them all: “If you throw a rock at them, they’ll throw a boulder back at you. You don’t know what’s at the end of this case…” And yay, we finally get to see Jeon Hye-bin’s (Woman With a Suitcase) character! Aside from being a veteran photojournalist, it sounds like she’ll take on a mediator role between the prosecutor’s office and her news team, and she asks, “Have you ever seen me set a table without the main course?” I adore Namgoong Min, but a part of me wants Falsify to do proper justice to our two female leads and have them run away with the show.
The premiere date for Falsify is inching ever closer, and we only have about a week and a half before the first episode airs on July 24, following My Sassy Girl. Here’s to hoping we get another solid legal thriller to tide us over during the weekdays!
