Whoa, this is a shocker: Kim Woo-bin (Uncontrollably Fond and Heirs) has been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer and is stopping all work immediately to focus on treatment. His management company, Sidus HQ, released a statement today announcing the news, explaining that Kim Woo-bin had recently begun to feel strange symptoms in his body and went to the hospital, which is where he received his cancer diagnosis.
The condition affects the head and neck, and is located behind the nose and throat in the region called the nasopharynx. The statement explained that the condition had been caught early enough for treatment, and Kim is currently undergoing radiation therapy and taking medication. All of his currently scheduled activities are being put on hold and will be rescheduled. Surgery doesn’t appear to be in the immediate plans; this type of cancer is reportedly difficult to operate on, because of the location of the nasopharynx.
Kim had signed on to join director Choi Dong-hoon’s (The Thieves, Assassination) latest film, Wiretap, a remake of the Hong Kong crime thriller Overheard that co-stars Lee Jung-jae. Wiretap was to begin filming later this summer, but in light of this news, production will be delayed. A source from the film’s production stated that Kim Woo-bin’s health and treatment is the priority, and that they have agreed to wait to film until he has fully recovered.
Waaaah! What terrible news! It does sound as though it’s a treatable condition, and the reports have an upbeat tone to them, so I will remain positive-thinking and beam him all of my well wishes, and never watch Uncontrollably Fond again (well, for other reasons too). Let’s send him all our positive thoughts.
