Anime Story Tier List: Best Units & Teams

Anime Story Tier List: Best Units & Teams
Updated on January 12, 2026: Added all units from the Christmas and Jojo updates.

I spent hours yesterday optimizing my Anime Story team for the new Jojo content, only to get wiped by a seemingly random boss ability. Sound familiar? The truth is, success hinges on more than just raw power; team composition and game mode matter. Let me guide you through the best single-target, AOE, Tank, and Support units for every challenge. Here’s my Anime Story tier list and unit guide.

Best Anime Story Unit Tier List

I’ve structured this tier list with the best DPS (single-target and AOE), Tanks, and Supports in mind. The reasoning behind each ranking is provided below. I’ll also cover the best team compositions for Raids, Progression/Tower, and Farming, along with ideal Traits and Relics. Here’s a breakdown of the tiers:

  • Meta: Essential units transcending typical roles with incredible DPS and utility.
  • S-Tier: The best units within their specific roles (DPS/Tanks/Supports).
  • A-Tier: Excellent alternatives to S-Tier, excelling in specific builds or situations. (DPS/Tanks/Supports).
  • B-Tier: Mythic DPS units that are powerful early but struggle in the late game.
  • C-Tier: Starter units that lose effectiveness in later stages.

Evolutions: Unit rankings reflect their EVO stats, considering their maximum potential. Non-EVO equivalents are typically at the bottom of their respective tier or one tier below. For instance, base non-EVO Pride remains an S-/A+ Tier tank.

Best Teams: Team suggestions are located below the tier list.

Meta DPS

Meta DPS Ranking Reason Ability
Roku (Ultra)SecretSingle-Target • A unit among the most valuable in the game
• The first move advantage is amazing for bursting down single enemies, preempting their actions
• Functions as a pseudo Support due to its ability, while dealing significant single-target damage
• Best for Tower, Challenges, and farming
• Evolve Roku (Blue) with materials from the Dragon Ball Raid Act 6
Allows all allies to start battle first
Gojin (Christmas)SecretSingle-Target • A meta single-target DPS with considerable tanking potential due to dodge chance, nullifying enemy turns
• A notable upgrade from the original Gojin
50% chance to dodge an attack
Vogita (Purple)SecretSingle-Target • A raid powerhouse, excelling in prolonged late-game battles due to infinite scaling
• Potentially the best unit given enough time to scale
• Not suited for quick farming where swift level clearances are needed
• Evolve Vogita (Blue) using Scantron drops from World 1 boss
Every round gain 75% more Damage
Mazara (Susanoo)Mythic5-Target • The premier AOE damage dealer, capable of enormous multi-hit DPS If enemy is stronger, deal 150% more DMG
BaldSecretSingle-Target • Deals the highest single-target damage, surpassing Kaizen and Roku, even Vogito in short fights
• Bald is also the best Raid unit to bring since he destroys bosses
Attacks deal anywhere from 100% to 300% bonus damage randomly
Dark AssassinMythicSingle-Target • An excellent raid unit, capable of executing low-HP enemies
• This gets you a ton of value since enemies have incredibly high HPs here
• Prevents wasted turns on low HP enemies, allowing high DPS units to focus on healthier targets
• Combos well with Bald, where Bald initiates the burst and Dark Assassin finishes
Executes the target if it has 25% or less HP remaining

S-Tier DPS

S DPS Ranking Reason Ability
DestructionMythic3-Target • A fantastic starting Mythic with considerable farming potential
• Deals impressive AOE DPS
• Ideal for farming EVO materials, clearing lower World stages quickly
• Marks targets to amplify team damage
Upon enter, deal 100% DMG to all enemies. Each attack has a 30% chance to apply Mark
VampireMythicFull AOE • Deals a ton of DPS with those Full AOE attacks
• Excellent utility if you don’t have Roku (Blue)
• That said, once you have Roku (Blue) Vampire’s ability falls off drastically since Roku makes your team go first anyway
• Still, if you don’t run Roku for some reason, Dio gets much more value
This unit always acts first and his attacks ignore defenses
Sun’s ChildMythicSingle-Target • Reworked from a tank to a DPS, now dealing impressive damage
• Synergizes with opening burst units like Destruction to quickly reduce enemy health
When the Boss’s or the strongest enemy’s HP drops below 50%,this unit gets a 100% damage boost and applies Solar Burn(30% damage, 3 ticks)
Itadori (Christmas)MythicSingle-Target • A high-variance unit with potential for high DPS through turn refreshes Has a 20% chance to act again after an action
Kaizen (Kido)Exclusive/LimitedSingle-Target • Capable of achieving extremely high single-target DPS
• Outperforms Roku Ultra in single-target damage, though Roku’s first-strike utility remains valuable
Every 2nd attack, deal 100% more DMG
Devil CyborgMythicSingle-Target • An exceptional boss killer with high crit potential
• A strong alternative to Bald, Kaizen, or Vogita
• Combines effectively with Dark Assassin to eliminate low-HP enemies
Increase own crit chance by 50% and crit damage by 25%
Reaper (Bankai)MythicSingle-Target • High base damage as a single-target unit, with AOE potential hitting four additional units every third attack on average
• Can drastically increase DPS with lucky effect triggers
35% chance to target 3 more units
Ant KingSecretSingle-Target • Similar to Raven (Red) in terms of incredibly high single-target damage, especially in later fights due to % damage 50% chance to Poison a target for 15% of their Max HP
Roku (Blue)SecretSingle-Target • Identical to Roku Ultra, but weaker
• Still valuable for its ability to eliminate an enemy before their turn
Allows all allies to start battle first

A-Tier DPS

A DPS Ranking Reason Ability
Raven (Red)MythicSingle-Target • Like Ant King Raven Red is one of the better single-target DPS Mythics in the game
• It takes a bit for the Burn to get going which is why Raven is better in extended fight and worse in shorter fights
50% chance to Burn a target for 100% DMG
Gray (Ultimate)Mythic5-Target • Strong AOE DPS with the Deadeye trait and Grapple Hook/Flame Sword relic, alongside Silent Bloom for max crit chance
• With this build, he is A or low S-Tier with high damage, healing and pseudo-tanking; otherwise, he is B-Tier
Each Crit you land, heal for 1.5% Max HP
TatsumakiMythicFull AOE • Tatsumaki is an S-Tier unit on paper but I put her in A because her base damage and DPS are a little low
• That said she’s a full AOE unit that can deal a lot of damage if you bring supports around her and give her the best damage increase relics
• She’ll be much better with an EVO but so far she’s a worse Madara, still good though
Every 2nd attack deal 50% more damage
Sound BreatherMythic3-Target • Tengen is a weaker version of Gray but is still pretty good offering nice 3-Target damage with sustain
• Stack him with the Deadeye trait and Grapple Hook/Flame Sword relic along with Silent Bloom and you’re good
Each Crit you land, heal for 1% Max HP
Wrath (Fury)MythicSingle-Target • Potentially amazing with healing units like Roku (Rose), Orihime or Sakura early and with Gluttony/Merlin to buff him
• In these builds Wrath can deal both great AOE and single-target damage
• Otherwise without heals you don’t get much value from the ability so Wrath is very situational
35% chance to return 150% DMG to the attacker
Time AngelMythic3-Target • A decent filler DPS, especially if you proc the ability on a high damage enemy
• That said, Time Angel doesn’t have a lot of synergy with other units so there’s no OP combo potential and he doesn’t scale well with buffs
• He’s A-Tier for raw stats alone
Every round start, 30% chance to make an enemy attack its allies
Ant KingSecretSingle-Target • Why the EVO is incredibly strong the base version is a bit slow
• Only good in extended fights but you definitely want to rush EVO ASAP since the base version ramps up more slowly due to lower stats
• Personally I’d rather go with Raven EVO or Ant King over base Vogita (Blue) if you need single-target damage• Get Ethereal and the Katana relic for more damage multipliers
Every round gain 50% more Damage
Wild BoarMythicSingle-Target • Similar to Reaper but weaker
• Reaper is currently better IMO since he can hit more targets but Wild Board will be better with EVO
40% chance to target 2 more units
Ethereal ArcherMythic2-Target • A worse version of Devil Cyborg but the 2-Target DPS can be impressive with damage boosting supports Increase Critical Chance by +35%

B-Tier DPS

B DPS Ranking Reason Ability
anime story envyEnvyLimited/ExclusiveSingle-Target • Similar to Vogita (Blue) though she scales damage much more slowly
• In return though you get HP which helps her tank more hits and her DPS is pretty good with the combo below
• Get Ethereal and the Katana relic since Envy loves damage multipliers
Every round gain 20% more damage and health
Gear LupyMythicSingle-Target • A favorite beginner Mythic that quickly loses relevance
• Unreliable in the late game due to its ability’s randomness
Attacks randomly deal between 85% and 235% Damage
Demon OneMythicSingle-Target • Essentially a weaker EVO Raven 100% chance to Burn a target on hit for 30% DMG
Water BreatherMythic2-Target • Comparable to Ethereal Archer, with slightly better stats
• A decent DPS option for story grinding, synergizing well with Silent Bloom’s buff
Increase Critical Chance by +35%
Super RokuMythicSingle-Target • A reasonable starting unit with moderate DPS, although outclassed by many alternatives Every round gain +20% more Damage
BooMythicSingle-Target • Despite good damage and a powerful Mark, Boo’s reliability is questionable
• The Mark’s inconsistent application makes Boo awkward in later fights and raids
Has 40% chance to apply Majin PowerAfter 3 Majin Power stacks, the target is Marked and receives 200% DMG
Ultimate WarriorMythicSingle-Target • The damage boost is conditional and not the most dependable When stunned, deal 200% DMG on the next attack

C-Tier DPS

Sosuke, Youji, and Agony are currently the least effective Mythics, though their EVOs may improve them. Among Legendaries, Levan is the best DPS, with Acu, Xoro, and Shibue as acceptable beginner options.

S-Tier Tanks

S Tank Ranking Reason Ability
Shadow KnightSecretSingle-Target • An amazing tank in shorter battles due to temporary invincibility Gain a Damage Immunity Shield for 2 turns after the first time this unit takes a Fatal Hit
Pride (Sun)MythicSingle-Target • Counterpart to Shadow Knight; more damage after death, excelling in longer fights Increase DMG by 50% and after death, revive with 250% HP and 250% ATK
Greed (Fox)Exclusive/LimitedBattlepassSingle-Target • High-risk, high-reward tank, sustained by strong damage and healing support
• Inferior to Pride and SK without a healer like Roku Rose or Orihime, lacking a revive mechanic
Convert 75% of your DMG to HP

A-Tier Tanks

A Tank Ranking Reason Ability
TitanMythic2-Target • The weakest revive tank, but still essential in certain modes if better tanks are unavailable
• A strong tank choice, far surpassing other A-Tier options like Ruki
Revives to 50% Max HP and gains a 50% DMG Boost after the first time this unit takes a Fatal Hit
