Rune Slayer Boss Guide: Goblin King & Dreadful Licht King Tips

Rune Slayer Boss Guide: Goblin King & Dreadful Licht King Tips

Rune Slayer has recently undergone a major update, introducing a new zone alongside several quality-of-life improvements. Although the level cap remains unchanged, players can now challenge two formidable bosses: the Goblin King and the Dreadful Licht King. This comprehensive Goblin King and Dreadful Licht King Boss Guide will provide you with everything you need to know about defeating these new foes.

Requirements for Facing the Goblin King and Dreadful Licht King

We strongly advise that you engage these bosses at max level. While the Goblin King isn’t the most formidable adversary in the game, attempting to defeat him before reaching level 40 can lead to significant challenges. As this is endgame content, forming a group is essential. Consider joining a Rune Slayer guild or participating in the official Discord Group to connect with fellow players. Given the novelty of this content, finding a group shouldn’t be too difficult.

The Goblin King is relatively easier to defeat compared to other challenging bosses. You might not even need a full team for this encounter; however, navigating to his location can be quite tricky.

From Ashenshire, head Southeast toward Greatwood Forest (as if you’re going to battle the Basilisk). At the first large tree, look left to find a climbable mountain path leading to a new zone. Follow this route to the entrance of the Withered Thicket.

Within this zone, you’ll encounter several hills separated by a chasm. The Goblin King resides at the bottom of the chasm. Although there is a standard route to reach him, let’s take the popular shortcut that 90% of players opt for. Head to the middle of the Withered Thicket (where the Licht King quest NPC is). Stand at the edge of the cliff next to some skeletons (look for a bridge with a hanging vine on your left). You’ll need to drop down into the chasm. If executed correctly, you’ll only lose about 80-90% of your health. Once you heal up, move to the left and drop down again (this time it’s a smaller drop), landing right next to the Goblin King quest NPC. Accept the quest (if you haven’t already) and pass through the large door where the Goblin King is located. Refer to the images if you encounter any difficulties in locating him.

Goblin King Tips and Drops

The Goblin King poses a much lesser threat compared to foes like Mother Spider or Dire Bear. With the right team, you can likely defeat him with just three players, if not fewer. One player should maintain aggro while the others hit him from behind. Be careful of his occasional ground smash attacks, which need to be dodged. Additionally, he can summon smaller minions; dispatch these quickly to keep the fight manageable.

The Goblin King can drop the following loot:

  • Curse of the Dune Dragon – Summons a Dune Dragon to deal significant damage. Requires Demon Sect and Fire Fairy. 1-hour cooldown.
  • Goblin King’s Club – Physical Damage: 19, +24 Strength, +3% Physical Pierce, +2% Crit Chance.
  • Cataclysm – Physical Damage: 24, +30 Strength, +10 Spirit, +5 Stamina, +6% Physical Pierce.
  • Merchant Ring – +10% item value gain when selling items to merchants.
  • Fighter’s Ring – Deals +5% increased basic attack damage when below 20% HP. Does not proc on crits.
  • Mana Cleaver Ring – Provides slight Mana Regen on hit. 5-second cooldown for every 50 Intellect.
  • Paladin’s Ring – Reduces crit damage taken by 20%.
  • Goblin King Rune – Slot: Weapon, +6 Strength, +2 Agility, +2 Stamina, +6% Physical Attack.

In contrast to the Goblin King, the Licht King is quite formidable. He can easily one-shot players if they are not careful, making a full party necessary for this encounter. Fortunately, navigating to the Licht King is relatively straightforward.

Follow the same path as if you were going to face the Goblin King, but do not drop off the cliff. Instead, look for a wall adorned with green shapes. Proceed to this area and enter through the opened door at the base. Continue straight ahead while avoiding the acid pools, and you will reach the Licht King.

Licht King Tips and Drops

Engaging the Licht King requires strategic play. First, be aware that you cannot harm the Licht King until you dispatch his summoned skeletons. This should be your top priority. Whenever he summons them, make swift work of them as they aren’t overly challenging.

Secondly, maintain constant movement. The Licht King fires fireballs at random players, and these can one-shot you if you take too many hits. Staying mobile can help you dodge these attacks. Additionally, avoiding damage is crucial to circumvent the party-wipe mechanic known as Dread.

On the left side of your screen, a green Dread bar will appear; with each instance of damage taken by any party member, this bar rises slightly. Reduce the Dread by causing damage to the Licht King or by minimizing damage taken. Once the bar fills completely, the Licht King will unleash a devastating ability that will eliminate the entire party, regardless of level or equipment.

Simply put, focus on defeating the skeletons, evading fireballs, inflicting damage on the Licht King, and keeping an eye on the Dread meter. It may take a few attempts, but as you familiarize yourself with the mechanics, this fight will become far more manageable.

The Licht King shares the same ring drops as the Goblin King (Merchant’s Ring, Fighter’s Ring, Paladin’s Ring, and Mana Cleaver Ring), in addition to the following exclusive items:

  • Blessing Cho – Summons a giant Toad for significant damage. 1-hour cooldown.
  • Tyle – Physical Damage: 11, +18 Strength, +6 Stamina, +3% Physical Pierce, +1% Crit Chance, 6% Hemorrhage buildup on each hit.
  • Licht King Rune – Rune Slot: Chest, +3 Intellect, +10 Spirit, +5 Concentration.
