Unlocking EGO in Archived is your ticket to a thrilling transformation that grants you powerful abilities. With EGO, you gain two new moves: empowered Dice Roll Max and a unique weapon, with an option to further customize your appearance. Let’s explore how to unlock EGO effectively and what options you have to choose from.
How to Get EGO in Archived
To successfully unlock EGO in Archived, follow these essential steps:
- Advance to Grade 3 to qualify for EGO.
- Gather enough EGO experience until your screen flashes colors.
- Tip: You can farm EGO experience by using Seeds of Light obtainable from the Library, Dungeons, or Office Contract during Night in the Backstreet. Additionally, complete contracts, eliminate layers, or burn pages from books to earn more experience.
- Once your screen flashes, you can claim your EGO through one of the methods outlined below.
EGO Moves: A complete list of all EGO moves is provided in the table below.
Night in the Backstreet EGO (Method #1)

The first and most common way to unlock EGO in Archived is through the perma-death event known as Night in the Backstreet:
- Ensure you’ve met the prerequisites and enter the Night in the Backstreet perma-death event when active.
- During the event, lose all your health to trigger a strange figure that asks you to satisfy your heart’s desire.
- Quickly scroll through the dialogue options until you find “I don’t need your help” and select it (you’ll have about 10 seconds).
- This action will restore your health and grant you an EGO.
Golden Bough EGO (Method #2)
If you meet the prerequisites, you can also derive EGO from the Uncharged Golden Bough and regular Golden Bough items as an alternative to the Night in the Backstreet event:
- Uncharged Golden Bough: Using this item will yield a random EGO. It can be purchased from the Travelling Pawner located in front of the Everything Workshop or next to The Junkyard. This item can also be obtained as a reward from the Refraction Railway and other dungeons, or may drop randomly from contracts.
- Golden Bough: In contrast, this item allows you to choose any EGO by typing in its exact name, with correct spelling and case (e.g., “Solemn Lament”). You can find it in The Library and various dungeons, plus from the Office Contractor during Night in the Backstreet. Remember, you still need to meet the Grade 3 and EGO experience requirements.
Be aware that using both items will consume some of your EGO experience, but the Golden Bough method can unlock exclusive EGOs.
How to Activate EGO & What It Does
To activate EGO mode, simply press J when your Emotion Level reaches 1 or 2, triggering the transformation. This offers you:

- A guard break with your last M1 attack.
- Ttypically, a unique weapon.
- Glowing eyes and a corresponding aura that matches your cosmetic color.

How to Reroll EGO in Archived
If you’re unsatisfied with your current EGO, you can reroll it using the Uncharged Golden Bough or Golden Bough items, as previously mentioned. Typically, these items allow you to unlock a new EGO. If you already have one, using the Uncharged version will randomly reroll it, while the regular Golden Bough lets you freely choose a new one by entering its name as described above.
