Gaming isn’t solely about having the best PC; the peripherals play a crucial role in your experience. I learned this lesson after years of focusing my budget strictly on my gaming rig, often neglecting essential accessories.
My turning point came when I decided to invest in a high-quality gaming mouse. I splurged on the Razer Naga V2 Pro for $180 (roughly €166). I initially bought it for just one game, yet I have absolutely no regrets about my choice and would gladly do it again.
Years of Overlooking Peripherals
As a seasoned PC builder with nearly 20 years of experience, I frequently exceeded my budget on the main components. I often prioritized high-performance graphics cards and faster processors, dismissing peripherals as secondary.
For years, I believed that achieving high frames per second (fps) was more crucial than having an advanced mouse or headset. Using budget peripherals sufficed for a long time, but eventually, I recognized the drawbacks of cheap mice that broke easily and performed poorly. It was time to elevate my setup.
After testing several mice, I finally settled on the Razer Naga V2 Pro. Though I bought it for a specific game, I initially thought I’d enjoy it across multiple titles. However, I found that wasn’t the case, and you know what? I have zero regrets.
The Impressive Razer Naga V2 Pro
Having used this mouse for about a year, I can confidently say I love everything about it. Yet, I nearly returned it after my first impressions. The mouse’s numerous features initially overwhelmed me.
The Razer Naga V2 Pro features an impressive 12 buttons on the side, which was a challenge to adapt to at first. My game of choice was World of Warcraft Classic. Although I no longer engage with the retail version, WoW Classic demands increasingly complex keybindings.
The additional keybindings provided by the Razer Naga significantly enhanced my gameplay. Instead of relying on Shift or Control modifiers, I could seamlessly access different abilities with my thumb.
Initially, setting up the Razer Naga was daunting. I needed to rethink my keybindings and adapt to the new layout. As I play multiple characters, I had to revisit my keybindings for each class, attempting to create a uniform system across the board. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t entirely possible, but I gave it my best shot.
Months later, I’m thrilled with the results. Adapting took time, but my gameplay certainly benefitted.
Can You Go Back After Experiencing the Naga?
After a year with the Razer Naga V2 Pro, I couldn’t imagine going back to a standard mouse. My WoW gameplay is deeply intertwined with this device; letting it go would be a nightmare.
That said, I can’t see myself going through that extensive key-binding process for any other games. It takes considerable time to set up and adapt, and since I mainly play WoW, I don’t own titles that would take full advantage of its features. Most of my gaming is done using an Xbox controller, except for WoW. When I do use the Naga for mouse-centric gaming, I stick with the default side plate without utilizing all its keys.
Consequently, I’ve essentially spent $180 to enhance my experience in just one game. Once again, I have no regrets, and I’d undoubtedly repurchase it if needed.
You might find it challenging to justify such an investment for any less beloved title. I’m continually tweaking my keybindings in WoW Classic: Mists of Pandaria, but I would not go through that effort for lesser games.
