Microsoft is now testing Wi-Fi 7 support in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26063. This release is limited to the Canary Channel, though a rollout for Dev Channel users may occur within the next few weeks.
Modern Wi-Fi standards are a bit confusing. We’ve spent the last decade using Wi-Fi 5, but hardware manufacturers and ISPs are now pushing for a transition to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. These next-gen connectivity standards deliver speeds up to 9.6Gbps, a nearly threefold increase from Wi-Fi 5’s maximum speed. The Wi-Fi 6E platform also utilizes the 6GHz band—a new “lane” for internet traffic that reduces network congestion.
