Crunchyroll Price Hike: New Subscription Costs

Crunchyroll Price Hike: New Subscription Costs

The email landed with a thud: “Subscription Update.” My heart sank. Just as I was settling into my anime routine, binging the latest season of “Spy x Family,” the dreaded news arrived. Crunchyroll, my go-to source, is raising prices again.

Crunchyroll Subscription Costs Jump Again

It feels like just yesterday I was explaining the last price bump to my friends. Now, here we are again. Crunchyroll has confirmed that subscription prices for all tiers—Fan, Mega, and Ultimate—are going up. Each plan will see about a $2 (€1.85) increase. So, the Fan subscription will move from $7.99/month (€7.40) to $9.99/month (€9.25). The Mega plan will go from $11.99/month (€11.10) to $13.99/month (€12.95). And finally, the Ultimate plan, previously at $15.99/month (€14.80), will now be $17.99/month (€16.70).

These price increases are slated to hit your account after March 4th. Mark your calendar.

Is there a way to get Crunchyroll cheaper?

Okay, it’s not all bad news. For a limited period, Crunchyroll is offering an annual Fan plan for $66.99 (€62). That works out to about $5.58/month (€5.15), billed annually. It’s like finding a hidden coupon when you really need it.

The last Fan plan price increase in the U.S. was back in 2019, while the Mega and Ultimate plans saw a similar adjustment in March 2024. This new hike feels like a balloon payment on a student loan: unwelcome and unavoidable.

What do the different Crunchyroll plans offer?

Choosing the right plan is more important than ever, now that those prices have been adjusted. The Fan Tier gives you an ad-free experience with offline viewing on one device.

The Mega plan lets you stream content on up to four devices and download HD content for offline viewing. Finally, the Ultimate plan supports streaming on up to six devices. For a detailed breakdown, you can check out each Crunchyroll subscription on the official website.

Is Crunchyroll worth the money in 2026?

Ultimately, the value proposition hinges on your usage. If anime is a cornerstone of your entertainment diet, the cost might be justifiable. But for casual viewers, the rising prices may sting. The question now is: with the price of other streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and even specialist services like MUBI also creeping upward, is this the beginning of the end for streaming as a viable entertainment model?
