The lights went out over the kelp and my HUD bled to gray. The cave was a throat of ink. I reached for a flashlight I didn’t have and promised myself I’d fix that fast.
I’m going to walk you through the exact steps I use to get the Flashlight in Subnautica 2. Short, practical, and written so you can stop bumping into coral and start mapping what matters.
You’ve grabbed a lost object by the glow of your phone more times than you can count — Flashlight fragment locations in Subnautica 2
You need two fragments to scan before the Fabricator will add the Flashlight to your blueprints. Order doesn’t matter, but the fragments are close to your lifepod and easy to miss if you swim straight ahead.

Fragment one lives inside the first ruined facility near your lifepod. Swim through the entrance, turn left, and check the corner where the terminal sits—scan the fragment next to it and return to your pod to register the scan.
How many fragments do I need to scan for the Flashlight?
Two fragments. Scan both and the Fabricator will show the Flashlight blueprint in your crafting menu.

Where is the second flashlight fragment?
The second fragment sits about 110 m from the lifepod, eastward but tucked beneath a set of corals. Keep your compass roughly between 250° and 300° (WNW to NW) and you’ll spot corals breaking the surface. Swim down under them—there’s an air gust that pulls you into the cave where the lab bench and the fragment wait.

At the bench you’ll find a Wavemaker fragment, a locker, and the final Flashlight fragment. Scan it—the fragment was a dim lighthouse in my hand—and then head back to the lifepod so the Fabricator will list the blueprint.
There’s always one junk drawer with batteries and random screws — How to craft the Flashlight in Subnautica 2
Once both fragments are scanned, open your Fabricator. The recipe is simple and fast to gather around the lifepod.

- Two Titanium — common in caves around the lifepod.
- One Quartz — looks milky-white and often grows near corals.
- One Basic Battery — craftable from two Copper and one Acidic Raion Pouch.
Make the Basic Battery at your Fabricator if you haven’t already, then craft the Flashlight and equip it from your inventory. The Fabricator is the in-game tool that ties fragments and raw materials into usable items; it’s available on PC via Steam and on consoles (PlayStation, Xbox). For context, Subnautica 2 sits around $29.99 (€30) on Steam depending on region and sales.
Once you’re lit, the cave maps quicker and you can stop guessing where hazards hide—will you use that extra light to hunt resources, scan wrecks, or something darker?
