I fired Night Mode for the first time and the map felt smaller—every corridor suddenly had teeth. You can hear the game rearrange itself; reward and risk trade places with every respawn. I kept thinking: some doors only open after dark.
All Mortal Shell 2 Night Mode secrets and changes
On a rainy street you notice the stores shut and a different kind of map emerges—that same shift happens here when Night Mode flips on.
You and I both know the base game’s rhythms, but Night Mode twists them: enemy HP and damage scale up, rewards shift, new encounters appear, and a handful of areas only reveal themselves when the moon is higher. I’ve played this on Steam and PS5; Cold Symmetry’s change feels deliberate, like a streetlamp cutting fog.
What changes does Night Mode make to enemies and rewards?
Enemies hit harder and soak more damage, and every kill pays out extra Gloom. That Gloom isn’t just numbers—if you return to where you first met a Shell while Night Mode is active, the area will offer additional Glimpses. The Collector also appears at the Abandoned Outpost Beacon in the Deserted Slums and sells a focused catalog for coin buyers:
- Fulminant Stone (1500 Coins)
- Infested Stone (1500 Coins)
- Weeping Stone (1500 Coins)
- Infused Stone (1500 Coins)
- 3x Glimpse (500 Coins each)
- 2x Thoracium (2500 Coins each)
- 1x Blackmarrow Key (1500 Coins)
Think of Night Mode as an investment—more risk per fight, but stacked rewards if you can manage the spike in difficulty.

Night Mode also tacks on new content: a Shrine of Sorrows dungeon that gives you a first-person glimpse into the game’s lore, a Forgotten Tower side-route that rewards the Seedbearer’s Scripture if you bring three special glands, and a new duo boss near Genessa’s Sester’s Sencer that drops extra Glimpses.
Where is The Collector, the Shrine of Sorrows and the Forgotten Tower?
The Collector sets up at the Abandoned Outpost Beacon in the Deserted Slums when Night Mode is active. The Shrine and Forgotten Tower are clustered on the map in ways that make sense once you’ve traced the beacons—Moyens I/O’s screenshots (below) are a fast reference if you play on Steam or consoles.
Mortal Shell 2 Shrine of Sorrows guide
I walked into the mushroom and the dungeon felt like a short film—every object seemed to have a cue. You will find a Ventrium tucked along a cliff before diving into the cabin’s mysteries.
Clear the Shrine and you’ll earn a Blackmarrow Key and a Touch of Noche. Follow these tight steps to avoid running circles:
- Interact with the cauldron inside the cabin to get the Tempered Iron Key.
- Use that key to open the first room by the hall and take the body’s Moonlight Sonata.
- Enter the now-open room on the left and grab the Sunlight Sonata.
- Place both books on the ritual table by the coffin—this triggers the yard sequence.
- In the yard, face the impaled head, spin away, look back, and repeat; this moves you into the next area.
- Pick up the Starlight Sonata from the grave, return to the shack, and place the third book at the altar to get an Alluring Mushroom.
- Add the mushroom to the cauldron, drink, then re-enter the shack to find the Basement Key.
- Use the Basement Key on the red-lit door and descend to watch the witches’ ritual; examine the area and you’ll be pulled back—Shine cleared.

How do I find the Thawed, Faded and Depleted Glands?
Each gland has a compact route and a practical trick to avoid wasting runs.
Thawed Gland location
Follow the Forgotten Tower entry path to the Conquered Temple Gate. After you cross the traversal gate, ignore the right-hand path and drop into the crevice. The Thawed Gland sits on a pedestal in the room left of the Subjugated Sentry. If you’re running Sester Cerresa, Tiel, or a Frost-resistant Eredrim, the fight is much easier.

Faded Gland location
The Faded Gland is under the Fated Citadel’s Citadel Annex Beacon (Gate of Infinity). Drop down and take it from the altar, but beware: the approach houses enemies that can pour damage quickly and one-shot low-HP shells.

Depleted Gland location
The Depleted Gland is the simplest to spot: drop from the platform you fall from to face the Hexapod in the Withered Shoals, then turn around—the gland sits nearby. To reach the area, clear the Gate of Mammon beacon first.

I’ve described the routes and vendor spawns that shift when Night Mode is active; secrets feel like hidden keys in a jacket pocket—use them and you change the way a run plays. Which discovery made you rethink a Night Mode run on Steam or console?
