Fallout Season 3: 5 Things to Expect

Fallout Season 2 Timeline Explained: Its Place in Fallout Universe

The desert wind howled, carrying whispers of New Vegas as I watched the sun bleed across the horizon. Season 2 of Fallout left us hanging, didn’t it? Some threads were neatly tied, but others unraveled into tantalizing knots – especially when it comes to that vengeful Ghoul.

With Amazon already greenlighting Season 3, speculation is rife. I’ve been rewatching, digging into lore, and piecing together some compelling possibilities. Let’s explore five directions the next chapter might take – prepare for a few surprises.

Norm Could Turn Into Somewhat of a Villain

Ever noticed how the quietest people often have the loudest breaking points? Norm, Vault 31’s initially naive resident, is now wandering the wasteland, exposed to its brutality. Imagine him facing constant threats, scavenging for survival, slowly losing his innocence.

It’s easy to foresee a path where he eventually uncovers the disturbing truths behind his father’s work. Confronted with the chaos of the surface world, might Norm decide Hank was right all along? He may not become a villain in the traditional sense, but rather a figure driven by warped logic, seeing control as the only solution. Given the events of season two, it is fair to suggest that Norm’s actions could be deemed somewhat villainous by many.

What is the Enclave’s plan in Fallout?

If Norm inherits Hank’s mission, that puts him squarely in line with the Enclave’s goals: restoring America to its pre-war “glory,” regardless of the cost. He could become a key player in their schemes, offering the Enclave insider knowledge of the Vaults and their technology, turning him into a far more dangerous enemy than anyone anticipates.

Maximus Could Join the New California Republic

Remember that feeling of wanting to belong, to be a hero in someone else’s story? Maximus craves that validation. The Brotherhood of Steel gave him a purpose, a uniform, but ultimately failed to deliver true heroism. He was forced to carry out morally ambiguous orders.

Season 2 saw Maximus defy the Brotherhood, stealing the Cold Fusion core and effectively sparking a civil war. Then came the NCR power armor, the desperate fight against the Deathclaws… He witnessed firsthand the hope the NCR inspired, a stark contrast to the fear the Brotherhood instills. Maximus choosing to align himself with the NCR feels almost inevitable; a natural evolution for his character.

Who are the good guys in Fallout?

That’s the beauty of Fallout: it’s rarely black and white. The NCR, while striving for a democratic society, has its own flaws – bureaucracy, corruption, expansionism. But compared to the authoritarian Brotherhood or the brutal Legion, they represent a more palatable vision for the future, one that might resonate with Maximus’s desire for genuine heroism. I believe that Maximus represents a fascinating moral counterpoint to the other characters.

The Ghoul Could Finally Meet His Family

The ticking clock of vengeance can consume a person, or in this case, a Ghoul. For two centuries, Cooper Howard has been driven by the need to find his family. Season 2 ended with a revelation: his wife and daughter are alive, located in Colorado.

Season 3 almost certainly will focus on this reunion. But what will it actually be like? Will they even recognize him? Will they welcome him, or will his Ghoul form and violent past create an insurmountable barrier? Don’t forget that the Fallout universe trades heavily in moral ambiguity.

Lucy Could Try to Go Back to her Vault

Home is where the heart is, or so the saying goes. But what happens when “home” is a lie? Lucy ventured into the wasteland with unwavering optimism, a belief in the inherent goodness of Vault-dwellers. The harsh realities she faced irrevocably shattered that naivete.

The Enclave’s now involved. I fear that by the time Lucy attempts a return, Vault 33 may be unrecognizable, a battleground, or worse. Season 3 could see Lucy not seeking a return to normalcy, but a desperate rescue mission, trying to salvage what’s left of her old life. The Enclave’s influence could also mean that Vault 33 becomes home to experiments – will Lucy be able to stomach that?

We Could See Much More of The Legion

Sometimes, the greatest threats rise from the ashes of failed ideologies. In the Season 2 finale, Lacerta Legate, after offing Macaulay Culkin’s character, seized control of Caesar’s Legion, defying Caesar’s dying wish. He destroyed the message that would’ve dissolved the legion and declared himself the new Caesar, ordering his forces toward New Vegas. The battle for the Vegas Strip is brewing.

With the NCR already present and the Deathclaw threat neutralized (at least for now), a brutal conflict is all but assured. Get ready for the bloodiest season yet, as allegiances shift and the fight for control of New Vegas intensifies.

These are just a few possibilities, of course. The beauty of Fallout is its capacity to surprise. One thing I feel certain of, Season 3 is coming – but who will survive it?
