R.E.P.O. Cosmetics Update: Full Patch Notes & Complete List

R.E.P.O. Cosmetics Update: Full Patch Notes & Complete List

I watched my semibot slide off a crate while the Service Station doors clanged shut. You feel it immediately: the game just traded a fraction of its grit for glitter. That shift hit me like someone swapped your utility belt for a wardrobe.

I follow the developer semiwork on Steam and YouTube; I read patch threads; I play until my thumbs cramp. I’ll walk you through what changed, why it matters, and how to make the most of the v0.4.0 Cosmetics Update without wasting Tax Tokens or time.

All new content in R.E.P.O. Cosmetics Update (v0.4.0)

Observation: The Service Station now behaves less like a vending machine and more like a living shopfront.

This update doesn’t add new monsters — it rewrites the social currency. v0.4.0 is all about cosmetics: over 500 items to personalize your semibot, stash in boxes, and collect as Tax Tokens. Valuables still turn into coin; boxes become Tax Tokens to spend at the Service Station. The grind shifts from pure extraction to a mix of haul-and-style.

How do I get cosmetics in R.E.P.O.?

You collect Tax Tokens by stuffing boxes and hauling Valuables. Drop boxes across levels, bring them back, and the Service Station will accept tokens for cosmetic purchases or rerolls. There are also secret shop entrances and randomized Service Station interiors and exteriors that can reveal rare wares—so exploring pays off.

New micro-systems to watch:

  • Service Station acts as the new cosmetic hub and reroll point for Upgrades.
  • Tax Tokens are the new soft currency — you’ll earn them by returning boxes.
  • Secret shops and new lore rooms sometimes hide cosmetics or test items like Duck Buckets and Human Grenades.

What’s new in R.E.P.O. v0.4.0?

The short version: cosmetics, Service Station overhaul, new items, an arena mode, and a handful of QOL and bug fixes that make play smoother.

  • Over 500 cosmetics added — hats, skins, idle animations and more.
  • Service Station expanded: randomized interiors/exteriors, an automaton shopkeeper, reroll Upgrades, and new secret shop entrances.
  • No new monsters in v0.4.0. The Monster Update came earlier on Halloween 2025 and remains the last creature expansion.

Game modes, new items, and mechanics

Observation: The developers added a race mode because players kept treating levels like obstacle courses.

Highlights you’ll care about right away:

  • King of the Losers — Race! A chaotic new mode with vehicles meant to make short runs frantic and frantic runs hilarious.
  • Vehicles: Scout and Hauler for faster traversal and team hauling.
  • Eight Service Station purchasables, including:
    • Semibot Walkies: real-time walkie-talkies that counter proximity chat.
    • Defibro: revives a semibot at the nearest ledge — handy for gap-crossing messes.
    • Leaf Blower: pushes monsters and items, but can cause fall damage to Valuables.
    • New staff options: Roll, Zero Gravity, and Void.
  • Charging Station expanded for larger-scale item charging.
  • Map now shows level and moon modifiers and can be used while tumbled.

  • Semibot no longer stares at grabbed handles or weapons.
  • Map disabled in Service Shop, Truck, and King of the Losers Arena to prevent accidental use.

  • Death Head Battery and Map Player Count removed from single player games.
  • Melee weapons swing forward and backward with scroll input; short equip cooldown added for better accuracy.
  • Drones visuals improved for beam clarity.

Quality of life changes

Observation: Small friction points were eating runs and player patience.

  • Energy drain while sprinting now scales with acceleration.
  • Shadow Child holds semibots longer.
  • Tick suck frequency slows as it grows and detaches when far enough.
  • Cleanup Crew’s head pauses briefly after being hit.
  • Tumble Climb now allows wall grabs in “red” mode but disables climbing briefly afterward; costs adjusted and energy drain reduced.
  • BoltZap bullets no longer destroy hinged objects.
  • Phone rings less and can be hung up.
  • Magnifying Glass increased in value.

I track semiwork on Steam and watch their weekly Q&As on YouTube because these updates come in small acts — a new monster here, a systems tweak there. If you play on Steam, watch the version tag and the community hub for mod notes; the main menu will flag [MODDED] when mods are active.

The cosmetics shift feels deliberate: it gives players reasons to return beyond high scores—style, secrecy, and a bit of showmanship. It’s a paint job on a stubborn hull, turning rough metal into a parade float.

Are you going to hoard Tax Tokens for that rare hat or spend early and learn the new Race! mode the hard way?
